About us

Vicomtech-IK4 is an applied research centre for Interactive Computer Graphics and Multimedia located in the Technology Park of San Sebastian (Spain). It is a non-profit association, founded in 2001 as a joint venture by the INI-GraphicsNet Foundation and the EiTB Broadcasting Group. It is currently formed by 15 members.

Among its 107 employees, more than 75 are researchers dedicated to the field of applied research. The role of Vicomtech-IK4 in the market is to supply society with technology by transfer of primary research to industry. This is done through collaborative R&D projects. Vicomtech-IK4’s main research lines lay in the fields of multimedia, computer graphics and interaction; technologies which Vicomtech-IK4 applies in multiple sectors.

The Intelligent Transport Systems and Engineering Area of Vicomtech-IK4 will be responsible of the computer vision research and GPU implementation for parallel processing for human presence detection, face expression tracking and spatio-temporal event recognition in the KOMPEYE experiment.

What motivates us

Vicomtech-IK4 has previous experience on research projects involving computer vision, pattern recognition, interactive 3D simulation, semantic web and ontology processing, in tight collaboration with the industry, universities and institutions. More specifically, the Intelligent Transport Systems and Engineering Area of Vicomtech-IK4, during the last years, has been involved in projects of human-computer interaction for handicapped people by means of eye-gaze tracking techniques, which has relation with the context of this ECHORD experiment.

In the participation of KOMPEYE experiment, Vicomtech-IK4 expects to increase its experience in human presence detection, face expression tracking and spatio-temporal event recognition in the context of service robotics to take care of elderly and handicapped people in their daily life.
