About us

The Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell'Informazione at the University of Siena was established in 1996, to do research in the fields of Robotics and Automation, Computer Science and Electronics. The Robotics Group, coordinated by Domenico Prattichizzo is active in robotics and haptics and in particular, in robotic grasping and haptic rendering for multi-point contact interaction. The group does its research in the SIRSLab, where many facilities such as seven haptic interfaces, two robotic arms, five vision systems and many mobile robots, are available.

What motivates us

The participation in ECHORD allows us to get a different perspective on our research, namely to become more application-oriented. It is our belief that the development of a framework for programming and control of robotic hands will extend the use of these devices into many new applications and moreover, will promote human-robot interaction and cooperation.
