About us

The Research Center “E. Piaggio” is an Interdepartmental Center of the University of Pisa devoted to multidisciplinary research in the fields of Bioengineering and Robotics since the ‘80s. The Research Center, coordinated by Antonio Bicchi, is affiliated with both Engineering Departments (Aerospace, Electrical Systems & Automation, Information, Mechanical, Nuclear and Production, Chemical) and Science Departments (Mathematics, Chemistry), and has promoted many spin-off projects. The Robotics Group is active in mobile robotics, embedded and networked control, haptic perception and virtual reality, robotic grasping, and human-robot interaction.

What motivates us

The main reason for participating in ECHORD is because of its innovative and application oriented approach. In our opinion, results on the organization of the human hand can act as the basis for the development of a unified framework for programming and control of robotic hands, extending their flexibility and use into many scenarios.
