Fundación Tecnalia Research&Innovation (Tecnalia Spain) from the 1st of January, 2011 is a private, non profit, research organization resulting from the merging of eight research centres: Cidemco, ESI, EUVE, Fatronik, Inasmet, Labein, Leia and Robotiker.

Tecnalia is the leading private research and technology entity in Spain and the fifth largest in Europe, employing 1500 people (164 PhDs). It operates in all the fields of today and tomorrow’s industry: Industry and Transport, ICT, Sustainable Development, Innovation Systems and Health and Quality of Life. Tecnalia is very active in FP7, participating in 150 projects and coordinating 31 of them and its turnover was 121 M€ in 2010. In 2010 Tecnalia filed 46 patents, had 4000 clients, received 2 M€ from licenses and created 8 spin-offs. The organization has a strong market orientation aiming at achieving the major impact in economic terms, through innovation and technological development. Under this premise, it contributes to the management and social development, transferring new technologies to companies, or promoting the creation of new management activities.

Tecnalia is internally organized in Business Units. The Industrial Systems business unit will take part in PRADA. This unit is focused on the design, manufacturing, maintenance and end-of-life of products and services, for the improvement of companies’ competitiveness. It has more than 20 years experience developing innovative technologies and transferring them to its clients, improving their competitiveness. It works in the strategic sectors of machine-tool, aeronautic, railway, construction, de-manufacturing and food industry.

Tecnalia participates in the High Level Group of European Technological Platform for Researching in Manufacturing (ManuFuture), coordinating the multi-annual workplan for the "Factories of the Future" JTI/PPP; and is represented in the exectutive board of the European Technological Platform for Researching in Robotics (EUROP) and in the board of the European Robotics Research Network (EURON).
